Visas for people wanting to come to Florida for employment and / or investment fall into five categories –
The business buyer would be interested in the fifth category (E5) as an investor, and the preceding four categories if he or she intends to bring along any employees from the country of origin.
Best to work with an attorney specializing in immigration to follow your case’s “Adjustment of Status” up to the time you and your family have received the necessary green cards for residence.
Those Five Categories Are
Employment First Preference (E1): Priority Workers
- Priority workers with extraordinary abilities in education, sciences, arts, business or athletics
- Priority workers that are internationally recognized professors or researchers (3 yrs experience)
- Priority workers that are managers and executives and have worked at least one year with a United States employer
Employment Second Preference (E2): Professionals with advanced degrees or persons with exceptional ability
- People of exceptional abilities in sciences, the arts or in business
- Professionals that hold an advanced degree
Employment Third Preference (E3): Skilled or professional workers
- Professionals whose jobs require a bachelor’s degree (U.S. University or foreign equivalent)
- Skilled workers with a minimum of 2 years of work experience or training
- Unskilled workers can fill positions that require less than 2 years of work experience or training
Employment Fourth Preference (E4): Certain Special Immigrants
This category contains many subgroups, including:
- Broadcasters employed by the International Broadcasting Bureau of the Broadcasting Board of Governors
- Ministers of religion and other religious occupations
- Former employees of the Panama Canal Company
- Iraqi and Afghan interpreters and / or language translators with prior service in the US armed forces
- Certain retired NATO-6 civilians
- Foreign Medical Graduates
- Employees and former employees of the U.S. Government abroad
Employment Fifth Preference (E5): Immigrant Investors
A foreign citizen may obtain a green card through an EB-5 investors visa. Eligibility is available to those that invest between U.S. $500,000 and $1,000,000 (depending on geographical area unemployment rate). The investment must benefit the U.S. economy and create at least 10 new full-time jobs. EB-5 visas are granted to the investor and his or her family.
